Stephan K. Chalup (Ph.D., Dipl.-Math.) is an Associate Professor at the University of Newcastle in Australia where he is leading the Interdisciplinary Machine Learning Research Group and the Newcastle Robotics Lab. He studied mathematics with neuroscience at the University of Heidelberg and received his Ph.D. in Computing Science from the Machine Learning Research Centre at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Brisbane in 2002. He published research articles in areas such as artificial neural networks, computational topology, machine learning and autonomous robots. He is on the editorial boards of several journals and has presented research seminars, for example, at Harbin Institute of Technology in China (HIT), at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany, and at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA.
