Biography
Dr Sohani graduated in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Tehran, Iran. She received a master’s degree from the University of Tehran in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, and her PhD degree from London South Bank University. She is currently a Lecturer/Assistant Professor at the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical & Manufacturing Engineering, Loughborough University. Her principal research interests lie in the field of the application of Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Robotics, implementation and control of medical and diagnostic robots and scanners. Her research also involves the application of experimental microwave imaging (MWI) and aims at exploring MWI, advanced image processing, computer vision and machine learning technologies for assisting clinical applications in diagnosis, and treatment, with special interests in MWI, data pre-processing, and measurements in an anechoic chamber for problem characterisation, acquisition, and imaging development, computer-aided detection (CAD) and segmentation of benign, pre-cancerous, cancerous growth from MWI. She established a solid experience in applied electromagnetics and microwave imaging for medical applications.
She is an academic expert and qualified educator with a strong commitment to continuous development. She is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and FHEA with academic experience in programme development, programme reviews, and accreditation with IET. She is a member of IEEE, IET, and Engineering Council. Her teaching and learning experience is well-aligned with her vision of developing career-focused engineering programs for developing graduates with product development and innovative sense to support businesses and organisations.
She is currently a leader and director of the Biorobotics and Healthcare/Medical Technologies Laboratory (BMTec) and a Lecturer in Robotics and Biomedical Engineering. She has developed a strong research profile in the field of healthcare/medical technologies and imaging devices. She published several high-quality articles. She supervised a number of PhD and Masters by Research (MScR) students, BEng projects, and course-based projects.
