Biography

Bernhelm Booß-Bavnbek, Ph.D. (in Bonn under F. Hirzebruch). He is emeritus for mathematics and mathematical modelling in the Mathematics-Physics Group IMFUFA at Roskilde University (Denmark) where he has been for more than 30 years.

He is known for his work in global analysis and spectral geometry. He is also known to a larger audience as a textbook writer and editor with lively interest for a broad sweep of mathematics, applications of mathematics and communication about mathematics. Among his research monographs are the recent monumental Index theory with D. Bleecker, the now classical treatise with Krzysztof Wojciechowski, Elliptic boundary problems for Dirac operators; with Jens Høyrup as coeditor, Mathematics and war, and as main editor, BetaSys: Systems biology of regulated exocytosis in pancreatic β-cells.
