Biography

Olga Povoroznyuk is a Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at the Department for Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Vienna and a member of Social and Human Working Group of the International Arctic Science Committee and Austrian Polar Research Institute. She holds the degree of kandidat nauk in ethnology from the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow and Ph.D. in social anthropology from the University of Vienna. Based on her extensive ethnographic research in Siberia, Olga published a book on socio-economic and cultural transformations of indigenous Evenki communities in Siberia. More recently, she has been publishing on the issues of infrastructure and development, (post-)socialism and colonialism, idigeneity, ethnicity, gender and identity in the Circumpolar North. Currently, she is working as a research coordinator and a study region leader in the European Research Council project "InfraNorth". She studies the role of maritime infrastructures in sustainable futures of the coastal communities of Tiksi (Russia), Kirkenes (Norway) and Nome (Alaska) in the context of the changing connectivities and geopolitics of the Arctic.
