Biography

Professor Gavin C Reid (MA, MSc, PhD, Hon DBA, DLitt) has a long and distinguished research record, in terms of publications, grants, projects, impact, and knowledge exchange. He has written ten books, all research based, mainly on industrial organization, enterprise, business finance and accounting, and has over two hundred and fifty research papers to his credit, including over seventy research articles in the leading international academic journals in economics, accounting, finance, and law. He has an h-index of 30 and an i10-index of 53. He has spent most of his career at the Universities of Edinburgh (1971-91) and St Andrews (1991- present). In the latter, a major role he played was as Director-Founder of the Centre for Research into Industry, Enterprise, Finance and the Firm (CRIEFF) from 1991 to 2013. He has held visiting appointments in the USA, Canada, Netherlands, Taiwan, Malawi, West Indies, France, Spain and Germany, and held a Visiting Scholarship in Darwin College, Cambridge University (1987-88). He was awarded both a Leverhulme Trust Research Fellowship (1989-90) and a Nuffield Foundation Research Fellowship (1997-98). He is currently: Honorary Professor of Economics & Finance at St Andrews University Business School; Senior Research Associate, Centre for Business Research, Cambridge Judge Business School, Cambridge University. He was recently Visiting Research Professor In Economics, Law and Society, ESSCA School of Management, Angers, France, 2022. A past President of the Scottish Economic Society (1999-2002), he was awarded their Medal of Honour in 2017.
