Dr Jamie Kenyon graduated from Liverpool Hope University with a first class honours degree in Sport Development and Sport Studies in 2009 before completing a MSc degree in Research Methods with a focus on qualitative research in 2010 (also from Liverpool Hope University). In 2010, Dr Kenyon joined the Centre for Olympic Studies & Research (COS&R) based at the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University to undertake a fully funded research studentship (PhD) in sport management and marketing, which he completed in 2013. While studying for his PhD, Dr Kenyon was also employed, part-time, at Liverpool Hope University as a lecturer in sport studies (sport sociology and football studies), and at Loughborough University as a research assistant. Between completing his PhD and starting his current role as a lecturer in sport management in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences at Loughborough University in August 2015, Dr Kenyon held positions as an assistant lecturer in sport management at Loughborough University (2013-2014) and as a lecturer in sport management at the University of Northampton (2014-2015).
Dr Kenyon is an early career academic whose research is currently focused on:
- Mega sports events and place marketing (image impact studies)
- Customer relationship management in sport
- Managing contemporary community and volunteer organisations
To date, Dr Kenyon’s research has been cited in journals such as: European Sport Management Quarterly; Sport, Business and Management; 体育与科学 [Sports and Science]; Local Economy: The Journal of the Local Economy Policy Unit; Sport in Society: Cultures, Commerce, Media, Politics; Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health; and, urbe. Revista Brasileira de Gestao Urbana [Brazilian Journal of Urban Management].
Since his first year of undergraduate study (2006-2007) Dr Kenyon has held the following positions:
- Student Editorial Officer, Journal of Qualitative Research in Sports Studies, 2007-2012
- Guest Editor, Proceedings of the Third Annual Conference of the University Network of the European Capitals of Culture, 2011
- Advisory Board Member, Journal of Qualitative Research in Sports Studies, 2013-Present
To supplement his academic activities, Dr Kenyon maintains an extensive bank of practical sports coaching experience (14+ years), is a member of the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and the European Association of Sport Management (EASM), and has engaged in research and consultancy projects for various organisations. Examples include: Loughborough University's own Sport Development Centre, and TARGET Football CIC, a Community Interest Company based in Toxteth, Liverpool (placed 45th out of 908 on the 2014 RBS SE100 Index).
