Biography
Dr. Guo is currently serving as a Chief Physician of the Division of Digestive Diseases, Zhongshan Hospital, Fu Dan University. She is a consultant of Shanghai Association of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, a specialized organ fibrosis group. She is also a fellow member of American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), and Asian-Pacific Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (APASL). Dr. Guo has been deeply involved in the clinical, research and teaching activities in Zhongshan hospital for more than thirty years, having first joined as a physician in 1992 when she graduated from the Department of Medicine, Shanghai Medical University. She obtained her degree of Master in 1997 and Doctor of Medicine in the year 2000 at Shanghai Medical college (former Shanghai Medical University), Fu Dan University focused Digestive Diseases. She became an Attending Physician at 1998, and was appointed as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at 2003, when she started to mainly focus on diseases of the digestive system and liver in her clinic and research activities. Dr. Guo has served as an honorary Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, the University of Hong Kong in 2001, and Visiting Scientist in the Division of Liver Diseases, at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York 2006 to 2008. In June 2013, she joined a Chinese medical team to provide medical service to the local people of Diqin Autonomous Region, Yun Nan province. Dr. Guo has been the Principal Investigator of 6 major research projects sponsored by Shanghai Pujiang Talent Plan (2009), National Foundation of Natural Science of China (2005, 2010, and 2011), and other funding bodies, focused on the study of liver fibrosis/cirrhosis. She has won 4 research awards for the studies of liver fibrosis honored by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, Shanghai Medical Association, and Chinese Medical Association. She obtained an investigator award to attend the APASL meeting in 2009. She has been a supervisor of 7 post-graduate students in the study of liver fibrosis since 2005, one of whom won the excellent Shanghai post-graduate student award at 2013.
Dr. Guo’s major research focused primarily on the genetic impact of host gene polymorphisms on liver cirrhosis progression and the role of toll like receptor 4 signaling on liver fibrogenesis and carcinogenesis. She has also discovered a novel transcriptional co-repressor of fibrogenic gene expression, DDX5, and generated several immortalized mouse stellate cell lines that are now widely used throughout the world. Dr. Guo has published more than 100 articles in high impact international and domestic journals, including Hepatology, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Genetic Testing and Molecular Biomarkers, and Journal of Hepatocellular Carcinoma. She has been invited to organize the fibrosis series reports in the Chinese Medical Tribune since 2009 to 2014. Dr. Guo has also contributed to more than 20 book chapters on various liver diseases, in particular the Practice of Internal Medicine of Fu Dan University, which has a 70 year history and is now in its 17th edition. She has also served as one of the academic secretaries throughout its publication. Dr. Guo has served as a reviewer for ~10 domestic and international journals including Hepatology, Life Sciences, Chin J Hepatol, and Chin Hepatol, She has also been invited to be the external examiner for the theses of postgraduate students of the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has been appointed as a teacher of the course of Internal Medicine for the medical students of Fu Dan University.
