Biography

Grzegorz Masłowski received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Rzeszow University of Technology, Poland, and the PhD degree from the University of Mining and Metallurgy in Krakow, Poland, in 1991 and 1999, respectively. Since 1991, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Fundamentals at the Rzeszow University of Technology, Poland and since 2011 he is an Associate Professor. He was visiting researcher at the University of Bologna and at the University of Florida, Gainesville.

His research interests concern lightning physics and modeling, lightning protection, and electromagnetic compatibility. He is the author or coauthor of over 100 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.

He served as the Chairman of the Polish Committee on Lightning Protection (PCLP) at the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers (SEP) from 2012 to 2018, the Chairman of the Polish Section IEEE EMC-027 from 2014 to 2018, the Chairman of the 34th International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP'2018), and then, the Managing Guest Editor of the ICLP'2018 Special Issue of the Electric Power Systems Research (EPSR) titled Advances in Lightning Research and Protection Technologies.

At the Rzeszów University of Technology he served as the Deputy Dean (2008-2012) and the Dean (2012-2016) of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, and then the Deputy Rector (2016-2020) for Education.

He has received numerous awards including the 2013 Distinguished Reviewer of the IEEE Transaction on Electromagnetic Compatibility, the 2013 Silver SEP Honorary Award, the 2015 Professor Mieczysław Pożaryski SEP Medal for outstanding achievements in the field of science and teaching, the 2015 National Education Commission Medal, the 2018 Gold Cross of Merit awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland for activities for the development of science, the 2018 Michał Doliwo-Dobrowolski SEP Medal in recognition of outstanding merits in the development of electrical engineering, and AGU 2021 Editor's Citation for Excellence in Scientific Refereeing.

Dr. Grzegorz Masłowski is presently the head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Fundamentals and within this department, he heads the Lightning Research Group. The Lightning Group conducts scientific activity in the field of lightning modeling and in the area of experimental research carried out in the Lightning Observatory, the Avionics Lightning Protection Laboratory, and the High Voltage Laboratory.

He is a member of the Polish Committee on Lightning Protection, the Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Electrical Engineering, the American Geophysical Union (AGU), and the Senior Member of IEEE. He was also involved in the work of the international standardization committees related to the lightning protection, and the scientific committees and boards of reviewers of several international conferences. He was also a member of the Working Group 2 of the European COST Action P18: The Physics of Lightning Flash and Its Effects from 2005 to 2009.
