Biography
Dr. Mohd Nasir Mohd Desa obtained his first degree in Microbiology from the University of Arizona, USA in late 1997. He completed his postgraduate studies at Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya and was awarded with Master of Medical Science in 2002 and Doctor of Philosophy in 2010 in Medical Microbiology. He joined Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 1999 as a tutor, later appointed as a Lecturer in 2003, Senior lecturer in 2010, Associate professor in 2013, and Professor in 2023. His postgraduate research mainly focused on the molecular epidemiology and functional genomics of Streptococcus pneumoniae. He is currently expanding the research at the Department of Biomedical Science, UPM focusing on antimicrobial resistance and genomic of Streptococcus and Staphylococcus spp. He had also served as the head for Laboratory of Halal Science Research, UPM specializing in meat spp. speciation from 2015 till 2018 and 2020, and Director at Halal Products Research Institute, UPM in 2020/2021. He is currently the head for Department of Biomedical Sciences at Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM. He is also a registered professional technologist (Ts.) in Biotechnology at Malaysia Board of Technologists.
