Biography

I study certain birth defects due to problems affecting an embryonic stem cell population known as the neural crest. These cells are critical for heart, craniofacial and skin development. Current research projects in our group involve signaling pathways downstream of receptor tyrosine kinases and how their genetic over-activation can cause anomalies of the cardiac outflow tract (common birth defects) as well as rare diseases such as the large congenital melanocytic nevus, neurocutaneous melanocytosis and vascular malformations.
