Biography

I am a cardiorespiratory physiotherapist whose main research focus is on cardiac rehabilitation, particularly for those recovering from cardiac surgery and myocardial infarction. Areas of interest in this field include: 1) safe and effective exercise interventions; 2) self-management support to empower people to engage in physical activity; 3) experiences of family/whānau in supporting patients during their recovery; and 4) developing accessible and culturally appropriate cardiac rehabilitation services that meet the needs of all New Zealanders. My research is underpinned by a person and whānau centered approach whereby my research direction is driven by the needs of those with lived experience of cardiovascular disease. In line with this approach, my key research expertise is in qualitative research methods. Other research expertise include monitoring physical activity levels.
