Biography
I am working as an AUT professor in the field of marine ecology and aquaculture technology. I established the Aquaculture Biotechnology Research Group, which pulls together experts and students to work on innovative research that can be applied to the aquaculture industry. Monitoring of shellfish and finfish health, together with nutritional improvements and supply chain quality production is what drives our research. We aim to undertake applied research with direct relevance to New Zealand’s growing aquaculture industry, improve student supervision through a ‘team supervision’ model and develop research excellence through multidisciplinary and cooperative work. I enjoy integrating my rigorous academic knowledge with real-world applications, in my capacity as Chief Science Advisor of The New Zealand Abalone Company Ltd and through advice to a range of companies/groups. I have a strong team-orientated philosophy applied to my research, mentoring and teaching, highlighting what I love most, people.
