Biography
Dr. Theodoros C. Zannis from September 2020 is Associate Professor of Marine Internal Combustion Engines - Diesel in the Section of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of Hellenic Naval Academy. Previously he has served in Hellenic Naval Academy as Assistant Professor from 2014 to 2020 and as Lecturer from 2009 to 2014 of Marine Internal Combustion Engines - Diesel. He graduated from the School of Mechanical Engineering of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece, where he obtained his PhD in 2006 and his 5-years Diploma (Integrated Master) in 1999. During his postgraduate studies was a research scholar of National Technical University of Athens. Dr. Zannis has research experience in the field of internal combustion engines by participating in research projects relative to the efficiency improvement and to the reduction of pollutant emissions in spark ignition and compression ignition engines. He has also professional experience in the operational and environmental design of power installations using conventional and renewable energy sources. Dr. Zannis has also many years teaching experience in Greek universities related to energy-related courses such as internal combustion engines, marine engineering, applied thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, steam turbines, ships' energy management and energy saving, marine engines maintenance, marine antipollution techologies and HVAC technology. Dr. Zannis has co-organized many sessions in international conferences as member of Fuels and Lubricants Committee and Combustion Committee of Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). In 2000, Dr. Zannis received the 2nd place award for Best Engineering Diploma thesis among all Mechanical Engineers that obtained their professional license from the Technical Chamber of Greece. In 2006, Dr. Zannis obtained the "Thomaidion Award for Best PhD Thesis" from National Technical University of Athens, Greece. He has also received two "Thomaidion Awards" from National Technical University of Athens, Greece for publishing innovative research articles. Dr. Zannis has been honoured with several awards for his biography including: “TOP 100 ENGINEERS 2015”, “2000 OUTSTANDING INTELLECTUALS OF THE 21ST CENTURY”, “Marquis Who's Who in the World”, "TOP 100 EDUCATORS 2010”, “TOP 100 ENGINEERS 2010”, “500 Great Leaders – Honors Edition”,
“American Order of Merit”, “2009 Man of the Year Greece” and “Great Minds of the 21st Century”. Dr. Zannis has also professional experience by participating as evaluator for research proposals in Greece and in EU under Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.
