Biography

Amanda Melo Holds a Bachelor’s in Chemistry from the Educational and Technical faculty of Souza Marques. A Master’s degrees and PhD in polymers sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. During her doctoral studies, Amanda Melo has participated in an exhange program at the University of Minho in Portugal wherein she has improved her knowledge in polymer extrusion. Her research interests include biopolymer and polymers compounding by extrusion and their characterization, i.e., thermal (TGA, DSC, DMA, Rheology) analysis, spectroscopy analysis (FTIR and XRD) and mechanical test. Additionally, her research is also centred around chemical modification of cellulose by sol-gel methods and organic modification to enhance dispersion at the polymer matrix. Currently, she works at the Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Material, where she develops distinct compounding by extrusion and functions fibres by melt-spinning.
