José Alberto Caiado Falcão de Campos was born in Lisbon, on 11th of April 1952. Graduated in Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon, in 1975. Studied ship propulsion at the Netherlands Ship Model Basin (NSMB), presently the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN), from 1977 to 1982 and obtained his Doctor degree from Delft University of Technology with a thesis on ducted propellers. From 1983 to 1986 was Assistant Professor at IST. From 1986 to 1993 was researcher at MARIN working in the field of ship propulsion. From 1987 up to now Associate Professor at IST. José Falcão de Campos worked mainly in the field of marine propulsion and more recently in the field marine renewable energy. Lectured several courses in the Mechanical Engineering Department, including the courses of Fluid Mechanics, Hydrodynamics, Resistance and Propulsion and Offshore Wind Energy. Founder of the Maritime Environment and Technology Center (MARETEC) also hold different management positions at the department and faculty level. Presently is the coordinator of the Master in Energy Engineering and Management.
