Biography
Dr. Giulia Cossu is a neurosurgeon at the University Hospital of Lausanne (CHUV), Switzerland, and holds the title of Assistant Professor (PD MERc) at the Faculty of Biology and Medicine, University of Lausanne (UNIL). She has made significant contributions to the field of neurosurgery, with a focus on vascular, skull base surgery and neuro-oncology.
Dr. Cossu completed her medical education in Italy (University of Turin, 2005–2011) and Switzerland (University of Lausanne, 2013–2016). She further specialized through the obtention of multiple diplomas, including in neuro-reanimation (University of Lyon, 2017–2018), pathologies of the hypothalamic and pituitary area (University of Paris Sud, 2016–2017), and microsurgical techniques (University of Lyon, 2015–2016).
She was appointed Swiss specialist in neurosurgery (FMH, 2019) and Fellow of the European Board of Neurological Surgery (FEBNS, 2019) and she has held various prestigious academic and professional positions. She was also recognized as an Associate Professor in Neurosurgery by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research (2023).
Dr. Cossu's research is well-funded, with grants exceeding 300,000 CHF, supporting her work in hypnosis-aided awake craniotomy, virtual reality in skull base surgery training, and neurovascular procedures. She has received multiple honors for her academic work.
As an educator, she has been actively involved in teaching at UNIL since 2019, delivering lectures on brain haemorrhages, neuro-reanimation and pituitary gland pathologies. She also plays a key role in organizing international scientific meetings at the University of Lausanne (CHUV).
Dr. Cossu serves as an associate editor for Frontiers in Oncology and Frontiers in Neurology and is a member of esteemed professional societies, including the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies. She has published over 90 articles and contributed to different book chapters.
Her contributions to international neurosurgical conferences as an invited speaker and moderator further establish her as a leading expert in her field.
