Biography
Javier Contreras-Reyes earned a degree in Mathematics and a title in Statistics in 2006 and 2008, respectively; at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He obtained his M.Sc. degree in Statistics in 2009 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He developed as statistical researcher and analyst at University of Chile in the following two years. From October 2011 to October 2018 he was Scientific Researcher at the Instituto de Fomento Pesquero (Valparaíso, Chile). He obtained his Ph.d. degree in Statistics at the University of Valparaíso (Chile) in 2017. He was professor at Departments of Statistics of Bío-Bío and Valparaíso Universities between 2019 and 2020, and between 2021 and 2024, respectively. Actually, he is Academic Researcher at University of Las Américas since August 2024.
Dr. Contreras-Reyes is author of more than 80 scientific publications, reviewer of several international scientific journals, and associated editor of São Paulo Journal of Mathematical Sciences. Contreras-Reyes’ research interests include the study of time series models, statistical information theory, skew-elliptical distributions, Bayesian analysis, multivariate analysis, non-linear regression, and computational statistics. He has developed statistical models applied to the interpretation of economic and social time series, oceanographic and marine biological phenomena, and information tools for non-linear dynamics.
