Biography
Tomoaki Nishino completed a doctoral degree in engineering at Kyoto University, Japan, in 2011 for studies on fire following earthquake and mass evacuation modeling. After engaging in studies on fire safety design of buildings at a national research institute of Japan, he now works at Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University, Japan, as an associate professor. His research interests are natural hazard-triggered large outdoor fire modeling and risk assessments, including earthquake fires and tsunami fires, extending to cascading multi-hazard risk assessments, and seismic resilience analysis of buildings from post-earthquake fire risk perspectives. He conducts his research with an interdisciplinary approach without being bound by the field of fire safety engineering. He is hoping that the research results will be widely used in practical applications for disaster risk management and effectively contribute to disaster risk reduction and resilience enhancement.
