Biography

Dr. Kosina received the Diplomingenieur degree in electrical engineering and the PhD degree in technical sciences from the Vienna University of Technology in 1987 and 1992, respectively. In 1998 he received the venia docendi in microelectronics. He is currently an associate Professor at the Institute for Microelectronics at the Vienna University of Technology. In summer 1993, he was a visiting researcher at Motorola Inc., Austin, Texas, and in summer 1999 a visiting researcher at Intel Corp., Santa Clara, California. Dr. Kosina was chairman of the 11th International Workshop on Computational Electronics held in Vienna in May 2006 and is a member of the advisory board of the International Workshop on Computational Nanotechnology. He has served as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Computer-Aided Design of Circuits and Systems and the Journal of Computational Electronics. His research interests include Technology CAD, semiconductor device modeling, modeling of electronic transport in nanostructures using approaches based on non-equilibrium Green's functions, the Wigner equation, the Pauli master equation, and the Boltzmann equation. He pioneered a variety of novel Monte Carlo algorithms for classical and quantum kinetic equations. His interest also include the modeling of two-dimensional materials and devices, nanostructured thermoelectric converters, optoelectronic devices, quantum cascade lasers, and novel FET architectures.
