Cristina Marta-Pedroso is a biologist by training holding a PhD degree in Ecology from the University of Coimbra and further specialization at Postdoc level in environmental economics obtained at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal.
Her main domain of research is environmental economics under a framework of biodiversity and ecosystem services assessment and hence focusing on Human wellbeing dependence on optimal ecological functioning. In the last three years, she supervised or co-supervised Master Students (5), PhD students (2) and Postdocs (1).
She coordinates (PI) the Portuguese participation in the Esmeralda Project (Enhancing ecoSysteM sERvices mApping for poLicy and Decision mAking), a Supporting and Coordination action funded by the EU (H2020) and in which Instituto Superior Técnico is partner.
She has been coordinator or co-coordinator of several R&D projects funded by public agencies and private companies.
Cristina has been involved in major worldwide initiatives such as the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (promoted by UN), TEEB (promoted by UNEP), the Ecosystem Valuation Initiative (promoted by the WBCSD) and the Mapping and Assessment of Ecosystem Services in Europe (MAES), a pan European initiative launched by the European Commission (EC). Recently, she has been appointed as expert for the IPBES Regional Assessment of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Europe and Central Asia being Lead-Author of the Chapter 6: Options for governance, Institutional arrangements and private and public decision making across scales and sectors.
She is currently Invited Assistant Researcher (40% dedication) at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon and an integrated researcher at MARETEC/LARSYS, and CEO of ATTHIS Consulting | Ambiente e Economia dos Recursos Naturais, UNP Lda.
