Biography

Dr. Virginia Saez-Martinez is a polymer chemist experienced in project management and research in Biomaterials, polymers and chemistry of surfaces. She gained research experience as part of the group of Jennifer Elisseef´s Lab at Biomedical Engineering (Johns Hopkins University) (USA) and for several years at the Biomaterials group of the Health Unit of Tecnalia (Spain); where she applied the fundamentals of polymers and tissue engineering as technological solutions to new therapies and advanced medical devices.
She was european Marie Curie IEF PostDoc Researcher in contact lenses materials at Aston University (Birmigham, UK) between 2013 and 2015 and worked as postdoc researcher in the same team until 2017, where she focused on the development of new technological approaches for ophthalmic products.
She holds a PhD in Chemistry of Materials and Surfaces, MA in Management and MSc in Polymer Chemistry and has authored and co-authored more than 30 scientific publications, and presented at many international conferences. Her research experience has been applied to European, National and private-funded research projects. She is experienced in design, proposal submission and technical execution, management of R+D projects and regulatory affairs of the medical devices industry (CE Marking and ISO13485).

From 2018 to 2020 she was Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow (MSCA-IF-EF-SE) at I+Med working in a therapeutic hydrogel for preventive treatment of acute pain chronification.
Currently, she works as researcher at I+Med, providing a complete solution to the manufacture of nanoparticles, hydrogels formulations and development of personalized medical devices for clinicians, industrial customers and academia.
