Biography
Dr. Gokhan Yilmaz is an Associate Medical Professor at the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences at the CUNY School of Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Ankara University School of Medicine in Turkey and attended a residency in Medical Physiology and Pharmacology at Hacettepe University. He furthered his academic career with a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Physiology from Louisiana State University, followed by a fellowship in Basic Immunology at Columbia University. He also served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Rutgers University, where he studied low perfusion states. Dr. Yilmaz has extensive experience in medical education, having served as a Clinical Professor and course director at the CUNY School of Medicine. His current research primarily focuses on the pathophysiology of ischemic stroke, particularly stroke-related vascular dysfunction, with a specific emphasis on the role of immune cells in ischemic stroke and microcirculation. Dr. Yilmaz is an active member of the American Physiological Society and the American Heart Association, and has received several awards for his contributions to the field, including a Teaching Award in Physiology from Louisiana State University, the Eczacibasi Research Award, and has received recognition for his work, including an editorial presentation of his manuscript in Circulation and recognition in the Faculty of 1000.
