Biography

Dr. Brian Ballsun-Stanton is a Philosopher, and Information Technologist, exploring the Philosophy of Data. He has a Ph.D in Philosophy from UNSW in addition to a MS & BS in Information Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is currently working with the National eResearch Tools And Resources (NeCTAR) and Australia Research Council Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (ARC LIEF) funded Federated Archaeological Information Management Systems (FAIMS) Project to deploy the next version of their android application for multi-user off-line geographically enabled data collection. He is also working with researchers from across Australia to deploy digital technologies and workflows for their research projects. He has developed a new methodology (The Social Data Flow Network) to explore how individuals in the field understand the nature of data. Brian's current research interest are in exploring the Philosophy of Science's interactions with the Open Data movement and building tools for rapid analysis and bulk manipulation of large ancient history corpora.
