Biography
A return to academia to develop communication skills became a life change event for Ana. After her Masters in Communication, Media & Justice (NOVA Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities & NOVA School of Law), she decided to become a gender equality specialist, addressing discrimination against women and girls through the lens of Human Rights and Gender Equality with an intersectional approach. As a scholar, she aims to create real impact through knowledge transfer to policy and practice. Being an advocate of popularising scientific knowledge she decided to adopt a rigorous but accessible language, uses digital platforms and publishes also in the non-scientific press, as these are channels of interaction with the non-specialised public. Ana is enrolled in a Gender Studies’ PhD, developing a thesis research on gender and political representation in leadership executive positions at local government and is always available to speak to the Press about women mayors to denounce the present Portuguese 9,4% representation. Ana is a feminist activist, a co-founder and board member of FEM-Feminists in Movement, representing the association in the Council for Equality of the Municipality of Lisbon. Ana joined the NOVA's Office for Equality and Inclusion, created in 2023, aiming to participate in the process of developing a stategy for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the university.
