Biography
Riswadi bin Azmi is a Senior Lecturer at Department of State and Civilization at the Center for Fundamental and Continuing Education (PPAL), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. He earned his Tahfiz Certificate in Quranic Studies in 1998 and later completed a B.A (Hons) in al-Quran wa al-Qiraat from Maahad Qiraat, al-Azhar University in 2003. His pursuit of excellence led him to receive the Hadiah Latihan Persekutuan (HLP) from the Ministry of Higher Education, enabling him to obtain a Master of Usuluddin in Quranic Studies in 2012 and a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies in 2018 from Universiti Malaya. His primary research focus lies in Qur’an Manuscript Studies in Southeast Asia, with a particular emphasis on manuscripts from the 17th to 19th centuries AD. He conducts comprehensive analyses of historical, physical, and textual aspects of these manuscripts, shedding light on the influence of various writing methods and exploring the Quran's perspective on science, the environment, and social development. His work extends to innovative preservation efforts, including the Terengganu Heritage application, which employs Augmented Reality technology. As a dedicated mentor, Riswadi has supervised numerous Ph.D. and M.Sc. by research students and secured 11 research grants, totaling RM561,532.00. His scholarly output includes 35 publications, 6 in WoS and Scopus indexed journals, 11 in other indexed journals, 12 books, 7 chapter in book, and 5 conference proceedings. He has received 19 awards in research and innovation exhibitions, including Special Award, Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals. Beyond research, Riswadi actively contributes to consultation projects and holds leadership roles at the university level. He is the Chairman of the Research Committee for the Terengganu Quran Manuscript's UNESCO nomination and serves as a nominator for National Heritage Objects. His commitment to advancing knowledge and preserving cultural heritage is evident through his multifaceted contributions.
