Biography
Dr. Päivi J. Tossavainen,
is Principal Lecturer (Teacher’s Pedagogical Qualification, certified) at Laurea University of Applied Sciences (UAS) in Finland. She obtained her Doctorate Degree in International Business at Helsinki School of Economics (Aalto University, Finland) in 2005. Her educational commitments focus on the Master’s level programs, especially in business management (such as strategic management, management of business networks, innovation management), service marketing and management; service innovation and service design, and research methodologies (qualitative research methods, action research, research oriented development). She is also a supervisor of Master’s thesis work in the master's degree programs.
Before moving to academia, she was employed at Nokia Corporation/ Nokia Mobile Phones from 2004 - 2010. She has a strong industry career in analyzing and developing the operations of a multinational corporation globally. Her managerial work experience comes from implementing large scale strategic change programs (logistics and supply chain management, SCM), complex socio-technological system implementations (enterprise resource planning system, ERP), and transformation from product-driven enterprise to service-driven enterprise.
Dr. Tossavainen’s research interests are related to complexity sciences, service marketing and management, and higher education. She collaborates with researchers and business practitioners to explore and investigate, how service logics transforms organizations, how to implement customer centricity, and how to promote of service development and service design.
Research projects:
- The Smart Countryside Mobility (SCM) , 2021 - 2023, EAKR funded,
- The Finnish Design Academy (FDA), Nation-wide research project 2018 -2020, funded by the Ministry of Education.
She had led two externally funded (Tekes) service research projects:
- ‘Service Innovation through Strategic Stakeholder Integration (2010-2014)
- ‘Transferring Service Knowledge to SMEs (2010-2012).
