Biography
Professor Mlitwa (Mlita) is a result driven and a well-balanced Black South African. He is currently a Director of Research & Innovation at the Graduate School of Business Leadership, University of South Africa, an Adjunct Professor of Information Systems at the University of Cape Town, and a visiting Scholar at MIT (2017). Prior, he was the Director of Research and Innovation at the University of Zululand (2015-2021). , he also headed the Post-Graduate Programme in the IT Department (FID) at CPUT, Cape Town.
He worked for 5 years as a senior bank official (Nedbank, Port Shepstone in KZN), doing data capture, then service as a foreign exchange officer, and a credit controller later on. He obtained a Licentiate Diploma in Bank Management from the Institute of Bankers in South Africa) prior to commencing university studies at UCT where he was also a deputy president of the SRC and residence sub-warden (Woolsack) during his undergraduate years.
In his PG era (Masters), he also worked as instructor at the Stellenbosch University computer lab (Humarga) in 1999-2001. He then became a senior researcher in ICT at HBDvc and Bridges.org, assisting Mark Shuttleworth in his duties in the Presidential International ICT Task Force (2001-2003). He progressed into a senior researcher in ICT infrastructure and networks under the HictE project (5 HE institutions in the Western Cape) in 2003-2005. Prof Mlitwa holds a PhD in Information Systems (UCT,
2010), an Mphil (Pol Management) (Stellenbosch, 2000), an MA (International Rel) (Stellenbosch, 2001), and a TRPM qualification from the Wits Graduate School (Link Centre) focusing on ICT and telecommunications (2002). He have overseen several socio-technical research projects, and has published immensely with most articles and books reflecting ground-breaking work in Computer Science, Information Systems, and ICT4D.
