Biography
A. Mouzaki began her professional career as an elementary school teacher in Greece. She holds a BA degree in Philosophy and Social Studies (majoring in Psychology) from University of Crete (1991), MSc in Curriculum and Instruction (specializing in Reading & Language) from Southern Illinois University (1994), and a PhD in Educational Psychology and Individual Differences from University of Houston (2001).
She has served as Research Associate (1998-2003) at the Center for Academic and Reading Skills (CARS) in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center. While at UT-HHSC she participated in the development and implementation study of Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI) an early screening for reading development of students in kindergarten through third grade currently used in Texas school districts and many other states in the US.
Since 2005 she is a faculty member of the Primary Education Department, University of Crete, Greece (currently Full Professor).
Her primary research interests is reading and spelling skill development and disorders as well as issues related to language assessment, early identification of reading problems and educational interventions developed for diverse student populations. She has participated as co-investigator in the University of Crete longitudinal study of reading development and programs funded by EU and the Greek state aiming to develop test batteries standardized in Greek student population for the assessment of language and cognitive skills for the early detection of learning disabilities.
