Biography

Ana Maria Reis d Azevedo Breda holds a Ph D. in Pure Mathematics in the specialization of geometry and topology by the University of Southampton, U.K. She is an associated professor with habilitation at the University of Aveiro, Portugal, member of the Center for Research and Development in Mathematics and Applications CIDMA, member of the ICMI - PT. During is academic career she has been a visiting professor at universities in United States of America, Canada, Brazil, and Cape Verde. She has participated, as team member or principal investigator, in research projects in mathematics financed by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. She was President of the Portuguese Mathematical Society (SPM) at a regional level and Vice-President at a national level; coordinator of the research group Algebra and Geometry of the Center for Research & Development in Mathematics and Applications (CIDMA) and member of the team that developed the National Mathematics Curriculum for Basic Education. Since 2000, she is the coordinator of the Thematic Line Geometrix, winner of the prize Scientific and Technological Innovation Jaime Filipe. She organized several international conferences and was president and member of the scientific committee of several national and international events. With extensive experience in the supervision of master and Ph.D thesis, she has supervised, theses that for their scientific value were worthy prizewinners.
