Biography

Dr Vaikunthan Rajaratnam, an accredited hand surgeon, medical educator and instructional designer has four decades of clinical practice following his graduation from the University of Malaya. In 2002 he moved to the UK working in the National Health Service as a senior Consultant Hand Surgeon and was actively involved in the management of injured soldiers of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. In 2011 he relocated to Singapore to KTPH and has been actively involved in the training of hand and orthopaedic surgeons. He has initiated innovative ways of delivering hand surgery services. His focus has been on building the specialty of hand surgery and faculty development programs for health professional education, specifically in the use of Instructional Design and Technology. His research areas include the practice of hand surgery, surgical volunteerism, and surgical training methodologies. He has developed an online platform for hand surgery and health professional education.

His passion for teaching and education has taken him around the world to deliver workshops and lectures on surgery and surgical training programs in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia.
