Biography

Peter Malfertheiner is Professor of Medicine and was Chairman of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectious Diseases at the Otto v. Guericke University of Magdeburg in Germany, from 1995 until 2016.
Since January 2018 he is Senior Professor at the LMU, Medical Clinic University in Munich, where he leads several clinical and translational research projects related to H.pylori and Gut Microbiota.
Professor Malfertheiner has been Chairman of the UEG (2004) and President of the UEGW 2006 and of the Education Committee of the United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEG) He was President of the German Society of Gastroenterology in 2011.
He has received many international awards (honorary memberships,academy of science, doctorates h,c,) and in 2019 the life time achievement of the UEG.
He is the Editor of Digestive Diseases, and serves as member in Editorial Boards of several other international peer review journals. He is Director of Postgraduate Courses of the European Association of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy (EAGEN).
His main research interests are Helicobacter pylori infection and related diseases, chronic inflammation and carcinogenesis, gastric cancer, gastric and gut microbiome, hepatocellular cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and functional gastrointestinal disorders.
