Biography
Phd Ana Nieto Masot is a full professor at the University of Extremadura (Human Geography). Graduate in Geography and Territorial Planning (Extraordinary Award 200) and Phd in the University of Extremadura Extraordinary Doctorate Award (2007/2008)
Research lines: Regional Economic Development, Rural Development, Tourism, Demography, Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing.
The quality and dissemination of her research have produced 167 works: 50 articles (mostly indexed journals JCR, SJR, ESCI, FECYT), 7 books and 40 book chapters for prestigious publishers (Thomson Reuters-Aranzadi, Tirant Lo Blanch, Dyckinson, etc.), and 60 conference/seminar contributions in national and international congresses. This production is linked to projects and research contracts (40), some of which included leadership responsibilities in five or them (Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, OECD and City Council of Cáceres). And since 2024, Principal Researcher of the Tourism Observatory of the Junta de Extremadura, a research agreement in which I have previously participated since 2018 as a researcher member of the team. I have acted as external reviewer for more than 10 JCR, ESCI and Scopus journals, a member of the scientific board of the journal Boletín de la Asociación Española de la Geografía (BAGE), of the editorial board of Cuadernos de Turismo and Geofocus. I would also like to add that I have coordinated as Special Issue Editor for three research special issues in the journal Land. I have acted as evaluator of national and regional projects of the Ministry of Science and Innovation and of the Research Agencies of the Community of Madrid and Andalusia and participated as Scientific and Organising Committee in different congresses of the Spanish Association of Geography and the Ibero-American Network of Geographic Information Systems.
He has also supervised five doctoral theses in the last few years, all of which have been graded cum laudem. These doctoral theses have been financed with FPU research grants from different organizations such as the Junta de Extremadura, the Tatiana Guzmán el Bueno Foundation or the Ministry of Education.
I have a six-year period of research in the position of Associate Professor developed from 2005 to 2010, by AQU Catalunya and approved by the University of Extremadura and two national six-year periods evaluated by the CNEAI as Full Professor of University for the periods 2012-2017 and 2018-2023.
I have carried out stays in foreign and Spanish universities such as University Central of Lancashire, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Coimbra, Lisbon, Instituto de Economía, Geografía y Demografía del CSIC, Universidad de Barcelona, Universidad Internacional de Rancagua (Chile) and Universidad Internacional de Bolonia (Italy).
I have been president of the Steering Committee of the Geographic Information Technologies Group of the Spanish Association of Geography (AGE) and member of the Steering Committeeof the Rural Geography Group also of the AGE. I am currently president of the Ibero-American Society of GIS (SIBSIG) and member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Geography (AGE). I am also a representative of the University of Extremadura in the Population Board of the Regional Government of Extremadura.
I am also the Coordinator of the Official Master's Degree in Geographic Information Technologies: GIS and Remote Sensing at the University of Extremadura since 2014.
I have been Secretary of the Department of Art and Territorial Sciences from 2014 to 2020, Deputy Director from 2020 to 2023 and Director of the Department for 1 year and seven months.
I take part in different governing bodies of the University of Extremadura such as the
University Claustro and the Board of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. And I have been coordinator of the EBAU exams for Geography in three academic years.
