Biography
Ulrika Pettersson Kymmer is Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at Umeå University, Sweden. She trained in medicine/clinical pharmacology and obtained her PhD at Umeå University. She spent a post-doc year at the well-renowned bone group at the University of Aberdeen (lead by Professor Stuart Ralston) studying the genetics of osteoporosis and now leads her own research at the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Neurosciences while also working as a senior consultant in Clinical Pharmacology at Umeå University hospital. Ulrika is the Principal Investigator of the large UFO-study (Umeå Osteoporosis and Fracture study) and is internationally recognized for her expertise in the epidemiology of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures, especially regarding the role of physical activity, metabolic and genetic factors for fracture risk. She has published ~55 scientific papers, the majority in high-ranking journals, including publications in Nature, JAMA, Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, PLoS Genetics, FASEB, Journal of Medical Genetics and Journal of Bone and Mineral Research. She is the principal investigator of more than 15 research grants including those from leading funding bodies in Sweden such as the Swedish Research Council, Swedish National Centre for Research in Sports, Swedish Society of Medicine and the Kempe-foundation. Ulrika has a wide network of internationally renowned collaborators, and has also been part of several international research consortiums including the GENOMOS/GEFOS, CHANCES, PHIME and EPIC-elderly consortiums. She has been recognized for her achievements in medical research and has twice received the Young investigator awards from the European Calcified Society (2002 and 2004). She has also served as a national research coordinator within BBMRI.se during 2010-2014.
