Biography

Zaheera Jina Asvat’s research explores identity, agency, and belonging in education and society. Her work with Muslim women in South Africa amplifies marginalized voices through storytelling, as seen in Riding the Samoosa Express (2014), SAFFRON (2017), and her award-winning fiction Tears of the Weaver (2023). She also investigates concepts related to teacher and pre-service teacher identity, knowledge and practice in mathematics education.
