2005 - Graduation in Physics and Chemistry in the Faculty of Sciences of Porto University.
2006 – European Master degree in Environmental Analytical Chemistry in the Pharmacy Faculty of Porto University.
2011 - PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences – Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry in the Faculty of Pharmacy of Porto University.
At the time Cláudia Nunes has a FCT Investigator contract. Cláudia obtained this Starting Grant for her proposal named “Upgrading rheumatoid arthritis treatment through a targeted nanotherapeutic approach", in the Biophysics and Biomembranes Unit of the UCIBIO, REQUIMTE/ FFUP research center.
The main research activity is focused on membrane biophysics, more particularly in drug membrane interactions which involves drug pharmacological activity, selectivity and toxicity, moreover, in the physicochemical analytical methods for analyzing and quantifying various aspects of drug-membrane interactions. Derivative UV/vis. spectroscopy, fluorescence anisotropy, quenching and lifetime, X-ray scattering, infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy are the major applied techniques. One of the other mainstreams of the investigation is the development of new nanotechnology based drug delivery systems that would be efficiently carried to the inflamed tissues avoiding the gastric local toxic effects of the classical therapies. Hence the work developed within this line of research aims to overcome the mentioned disadvantages of the current therapies, by the development of innovative nanosystems (silica nanotubes, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid particles and liposomes) for drug delivery.
At the time, Cláudia Nunes also belongs to the management commitee of a COST action: CA16124 - BIO-Brillouin Light (2017-2020).
