Guest Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology of the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL). I received my PhD in Sociology, on the "Processes and Dynamics of School Trajectories and Professional Orientations of Children of Immigrants in Portugal", from the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL) in 2014. My ongoing postdoctoral project on “Mobility, labour integration and social differentiation in the transition to adulthood: patterns and dispositions”, was awarded with a Foundation for Science and Technology (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia) fellowship grant.
My interests in education research include school success, early school leaving, children and young people with migrant background educational paths, future orientations and social inequality. Currently I'm focusing on mobility and examining the intersections between youth, social inequality, mobility and labour market.
As an guest assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology of the Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL), I have been teaching courses on “Learning society” and “Children of Immigrants and Education” in the “Education and Society Master’s Degree. I also taught in the Lisbon School of Education and in the Faculty of Letters (University of Lisbon - FLUL). Previous courses include "Sociology of Education", "Educational Policies”, "Integration in Migration Processes", and “Multicultural Mediation in Educational Contexts”.
As a researcher at the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-IUL), I integrate the Research Groups “Inequalities, Migrations and Territories” and "Knowledge Society, Competencies and Communication". I'm also coordinating for Portugal the “Below 10” European project (Erasmus+), focused on Early School Leaving in Europe (2016-2019) and the PandPass European project, focused on refugees integration and support (2017-2019); and co-coordinated (together with Teresa Seabra) the Local Educational Project of the Odivelas Municipality (March-July 2017).
Between 2006 and 2008I worked in the ACIDI - High-Commission for Immigration and Intercultural Dialogue, in the National Coordination Office of Programa Escolhas, a government social inclusion programme aimed at children and young people coming from the most disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds. I also worked as trainer with several publics, as teachers, social and youth workers.
