Biography

Maria M. Nascimento holds a degree in Forestry Engineering at Instituto Superior de Agronomia (Higher Institute of Agronomy) in 1985, having been a maths teacher of Secondary Education for one year, 1984/85. Since 1985, joined the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD). Her PhD in Mathematics was obtained from UTAD, in 1999. She was a research member of the Research Centre of Mathematics - CM-UTAD - (UTAD), since July 2007 till October 2013, in the Mathematics History and Methodology research group. Since 2013 she is a founding member of the critical thinking group of UTAD, webPACT. She is a research member of the Research Centre Didactics and Technology in the Education of Trainers - CIDTFF (University of Aveiro), since December 2013. She is presently an Assistant Professor at UTAD’s Mathematics Department. Her research interests include: Didactics of Statistics; Didactics of Mathematics; Teaching Mathematics in Engineering degrees and in the first years of school (Pre-School and Basic Education); Etnomathematics; Critical thinking.
