Biography

JOEL WEIJIA LAI received a Ph.D. in complex systems from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Singapore, in 2023. Prior to that, he received the B.Sc. degree (Hons.) in physics with a second major in mathematical sciences from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in 2017. Between his Bachelor's and doctorate degrees, Joel was with the Division of Physics and Applied Physics, NTU, to develop technology-enhanced learning tools for teaching courses in physics and mathematics. In 2019, he joined as a Research Assistant with the SUTD–Massachusetts Institute of Technology International Design Centre to research on complex systems, in particular network congestion. He is currently a Research Fellow (Senior Data Scientist) at the Centre for Applications of Teaching and Learning Analytics for Students (ATLAS) under the Institute of Pedagogical Innovation, REsearch and Excellence (InsPIRE) at NTU.
