Biography
Behrooz Mahmoodi-Bakhtiari (b. 1974) is a linguist, and a professor of the Department of Performing Arts, University of Tehran (Since 2004). His major areas of research are Iranian and Persian Linguistics, Discourse Analysis of Drama, Semiotics of Drama and Film, and Comparative Literature. He has plenty of publications in the above-mentioned fields, and had published several books such as Tense in Persian (2002), Persian for Dummies (2008), Essays of Typology of Iranian Languages (With Alireza Korangy, 2018), Evidentiality in Sa'di's Poetry and Prose (With Masoomeh Mehrabi, 2023), Tajik Linguistics (With Shinji Ido, 2023), Persian Dialects and Dialectology (With Alireza Korangy, 2024), as well has writing book chapters for some major references such as The World's Major Languages (2008), Trends in Iranian and Persian Linguistics (2018), The Oxford Handbook of Persian Linguistics (2019), The Routledge Handbook of Persian Literary Translation (2022), and The Routledge Handbook of Second Language Acquisition and Pedagogy of Persian (2024). He has also written several entries for major encyclopedias such as Encyclopedia Iranica, Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics, and Encyclopedia of Islam (3rd Edition).
