Biography

Scientific research and transference: Dr. Francisco J. Amaro Gahete [FA] is an emerging researcher who has dedicated his entire academic career to investigate how nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle interventions can be used and combined to optimize human health. His focus extends beyond preventive measures to encompass the treatment of chronic diseases. As an undergraduate student, FA demonstrated that novel training trends, such as high-intensity interval training, are effective and efficient ways for enhancing functional capacity and cardiovascular risk factors in humans. During his PhD, FA made significant contributions to the field of human health during the ageing process by leading the FIT-AGEING study. The scientific articles derived from his doctoral thesis (n=18; https://n9.cl/0cs17) revealed that a well-designed exercise intervention increases S-Klotho protein levels, elucidating a previously unknown physiological mechanism explaining the benefits of exercise during the aging process. These findings have received noteworthy awards, including the "PhD Academy Award" from the top 1-ranked sports medicine journal (British Journal of Sport Medicine [https://n9.cl/h3jd2])", or the "Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado" given by the University of Granada, among others. During his postdoctoral period, FA has actively participated in various national and international scientific projects. They have focused on implementing innovative exercise and diet interventions during adulthood and old age. Concretely, the INTERAPNEA study demonstrated that an interdisciplinary weight loss and lifestyle intervention led to improvement or even remission of obstructive sleep apnea and related co-morbities among adults with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea and obesity (https://n9.cl/x4szs); and the ACTIBATE study have revealed that the exercise-induced cardiometabolic benefits in humans are not explained by the activation of brown adipose tissue but by other organs (https://n9.cl/2orwl). These groundbreaking discoveries have been widely disseminated through original research publications in scientific journals, symposiums, conferences, and media channels. FA has also coordinated a series of studies to understand the diurnal variation impact of the effect of exercise on human metabolism (https://n9.cl/52m2f). Recently, FA has taken a key role in the EXTREME multicenter randomized controlled trial which demonstrated that a time-restricted eating intervention is an effective, safe, feasible, and well-tolerated strategy for reducing visceral adipose tissue in adults with obesity (accepted in Nature Medicine; journal top 1 in the JCR area of Medicine, Research & Experimental, Impact Factor=58.7). All of these scientific achievements are exemplified by >160 scientific articles published in peer-review journals (average citation per item >10 times/year), h-indexes of 30 and 23 according to Google Scholar and WoS, and 10 national and international scientific awards. Notwithstanding the aforementioned achievements, FA has maintained a significant outreach activity, being ranked in the InfluScience UGR Ranking (Researcher Top 9 / Article position nº 1 in area of Agricultural Sciences) which highlights researchers with the greatest digital social impact based on altmetrics (https://n9.cl/6rzim / https://n9.cl/hy0w8).
Internationalization: FA has undertaken pre- and post-doctoral international research stays at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark with Prof. Jørn W. Helge (shared publications - https://n9.cl/ugvi4) and the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico with Prof. Arnulfo Ramos (shared publications - https://n9.cl/s3upk). Additionally, FA currently maintains active and fruitful collaborations with more than 15 research groups from different countries. Indeed, ~50% of the manuscript published by FA have involved international coauthors. This extensive international academic activity has positioned FA within the top 0.24% and 1.50% of researchers worldwide in the fields of "Exercise" (https://n9.cl/rzb1x) and "Diet" (https://n9.cl/8aq4n6), respectively (see the ExpertScape ranking). FA has served as a reviewer for prestigious scientific journals (n>25), including Science or the British Journal of Sport Medicine (among others), and as the invited editor for three scientific journals (all Q1 in JCR). FA has also belonged to the panel of expert for evaluating national and international scientific projects.
Leadership and supervision: Despite his youth, FA possesses widely acknowledged leadership and supervision skills. After completing his PhD Thesis in 2019, he has received funding to develop 4 research projects as Principal Investigator (PI). FA has completed >90 conferences in national and international congresses and symposiums (>20 as invited speaker). Moreover, he has actively contributed to the organization and coordination of several national and international congresses, seminars, and sym
