Biography

Mónica Aresta is an Auxiliary Researcher at DigiMedia - Digital Media and Interaction Research Centre (University of Aveiro, Department of Communication and Arts), and the coordinator of the "Technology-enhanced Learning and Communities" (TELC) research team.
Her research activities have their roots in the area of CMC and Human-Computer Interaction and are deeply connected to the study on how technology - when seen non-neutral perspective, can provide enriching experiences, enhance human relations, and foster behavioural change. Her research interests focus on Human-Computer Interaction, Computer-Mediated Communication, User Engagement and User eXperience, Technology-Enhanced Learning and Digital Games for Environmental Sustainability. She is currently involved in several research projects funded by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation and by European funds; has published more than 14 book chapters, 13 journal articles and 16 conference papers in high-impact journals in the fields of HCI and TEL; and supervises several doctoral and master’s degree students.
Mónica is the PI of the METELS project – a project that aims to develop and validate a framework and a scale able to be used when exploring User Engagement in TEL scenarios from the perspective of digital ethics, positive computing, and reflective design.
