Biography
Dr Theodoros Triantis is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (INN) of NCSR-Demokritos, Greece, and he has a long experience in both Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) and Environmental Chemistry. In the field of AOPs, his research activities include the following: • Photocatalysis with polyoxometalates and TiO2; •Photocatalytic degradation studies of toxic organic pollutants and cyanotoxins in water; Elucidation of reaction mechanisms and identification of intermediates and final products; • Photocatalytic activity evaluation of new nanostructured catalysts; • Radiochemical degradation of cyanotoxins and water odor compounds. In Environmental Chemistry, he focused on developing and validating modern analytical methods for determining emerging organic pollutants in water, food, and environmental samples. These methods are based on a combination of suitable sample treatment techniques (solid-phase extraction (SPE) / solid-phase microextraction (SPME)), advanced chromatographic separation techniques (e.g., Gas or liquid chromatography) as well as detection by modern techniques of tandem mass spectrometry (e.g., GC-MS or LC-MS / MS). Also, the following research activities are included in his current research plans: (a) isolation of high-added value bioactive compounds from cyanobacterial biomass and (b) development of analytical methods for targeted and/or suspect screening of toxic environmental pollutants with emphasis on cyanotoxins, using advanced analytical techniques (GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, HRMS). He also has deep knowledge and experience in quality assurance and quality control in chemical analysis. He has served since 2005 as Quality Manager of the Laboratory of Environmental Analysis, INN, the only accredited laboratory for analyzing cyanotoxins in water and biomass samples in Greece. Dr. T. Triantis has published 64 articles in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, 18 book chapters, 32 conference proceedings and 100 conference abstracts (Citations: 3535, h-index: 34 (Google Scholar)). During his long-term research experience, he has been involved in 24 European and National research projects (two of them served as Principal Investigator). He has co-supervised several PhD and MSc students. See more here: https://inn.demokritos.gr/prosopiko/t.triantis/
