Biography
I am the Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, and Biostatistics at Johns Hopkins University, where I’m also Director of the Center for Computational Biology. My lab’s research focuses on the development of new computational methods for analysis of DNA and RNA from the latest sequencing technologies. Over the years we have worked on problems in gene finding, genome and transcriptome assembly, microbial genomics, metagenomics, and sequencing technology itself.
My current work emphasizes analysis of DNA and RNA sequenced with next-generation technology. My blogs and other writing cover topics science and medicine in society including the effects of pseudoscience, the problems of alternative medicine, the anti-vaccination movement, and the influence of sports on higher education. See the links on my lab home page (salzberg-lab.org) for my scientific publications, a link to my Forbes column, and other news.
