Biography
Trained as a molecular biology specialized biochemist, Satu completed her PhD at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki in 2007. She did her first postdoc with Professor Frank Constantini at Columbia University Medical Center and continued to her second postdoc at the Institute of Biotechnology (University of Helsinki). In 2014, she was appointed as junior PI at BI, and in 2015 as a director of GM-unit at the Laboratory Animal Centre of University of Helsinki. Since the fall 2017 Satu has been principal investigator at the Faculty of Medicine and from 2019 onwards part of STEMM research program at Research Programs Unit.
As developmental biologist, Satu utilizes embryonic kidney to examine mechanisms guiding organogenesis regulation. Her core expertise is branching morphogenesis, progenitor maintenance and differentiation. Kuure lab utilizes in vitro tissue cultures, in vivo genetic engineering, imaging, cell biology and systems biology approaches to provide new knowledge on cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying normal and abnormal kidney development. Satu is an active participant within Nordic and European developmental biology societies, and involved in many activities of national and international transgenic technologies.
