Biography
M. Valárik (born 1971) graduated in biochemistry from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Komenius University Bratislava in 1995. Then he joined the staff of the IEB Olomouc and his doctoral study in Plant Physiology at Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Komenius University Bratislava was completed in 2004 (Ph.D.). He has spent several short-period research stays abroad. In period 2004 – 2006 he spent three years at Department of Plant Sciences UC, Davis, California, USA (Jorge Dubcovsky lab) as Postdoctoral Fellow, cloning flowering time genes. In the 2017 he spent two months at the Cereal Disease Laboratory, Department of plant Pathology, University of Minnesota, ST. PAUL, MN, USA within the OECD’s CO-OPERATIVE RESEARCH PROGRAMME. At the Palacky university, Olomouc he is teaching two courses focused on molecular markers development and use in taxonomy and genetic mapping. From 2008 he is a member of Coordinating Committee of Internation wheat genome sequencing consortium (IWGSC, www.wheatgenome.org). Generally, he focusses on plant genomics, positional cloning, powdery mildew resistance genes, host pathogen interactions, molecular marker development, and construction of genetic and physical maps, genome sequencing and genome evolution and protein structure and function.
