Biography
Dr. Álvaro Santana Mayor finished his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 2016 at the University of La Laguna (ULL). He obtained a Merit award for the Final Degree Project with the highest mark awarded by the Illustrious College of Chemists of the Canary Islands. In 2017 he finished a Master’s degree in Chemistry at the ULL with a final mark of 9.33. He completed his PhD (2017-2023) at the same university in the international modality. He realised a three-month stay at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche in Rome, Italy during this period. Dr. Álvaro Santana Mayor has published 23 articles in journals included in the Journal Citation Report (16 in Q1), 13 as first author, 6 book chapters and 91 communications in several international, national, and regional conferences, including 18 oral presentations, and obtaining three awards, including the best oral presentation in the 17th Annual Workshop on Emerging High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) and LC-MS/MS Applications in Environmental Analysis and Food Safety.
In addition, he is usually a reviewer of important journals in the fields of Analytical Chemistry and Food and Environmental Sciences of the prestigious editorials Elsevier, Wiley, or Springer Nature, including 15 review contributions to the Electrophoresis, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Food Analytical Methods, Food Research International, Journal of Chromatography A, Journal of Separation Sciences, and Open Life Sciences journals, in addition to a book chapter of Springer Nature editorial.
At the beginning of his PhD (2017-2019), he worked as a researcher in the International Project PERVEMAC II. After this period, he was the beneficiary of the Aid for the Training of Research Personnel (FPI) for the completion of doctoral theses granted by the Canarian Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI) of the Government of the Canary Islands. Since October 2022 he has been working as a researcher at the Agroalimentary Techniques Services of the General Services of Research Support at the ULL using state-of-the-art chromatography and detection techniques.
