Biography
Emilio Muñoz finished Industrial Engineering in 2008, becoming an international PhD with cum-laude mention in 2014. He currently works as a Professor in the area of Engineering Projects. His main R&D lines focus on studying the technical characterization and economic analysis of operating PV projects, specially focused on bifacial technology. He is also involved in the design of PV systems such as floating PV, self-consumption and Construction Integration Solutions (Hybrid PV-Noise Barriers).
He is author of 38 scientific papers in indexed journals (18 JCR-Q1), and holds an H-index of 14 with 811 citations (Google Scholar). He is also co-author of 8 book chapters, two of them (Springer), are included in the SJR classification Q3. Finally, he has more than 40 contributions to congresses (1 Poster Award at the 35th European PV Conference).
He has participated in 28 R&D projects, 4 as principal investigator (PI). The coordination of a Spanish subproject from the Solar-era.net call (APCIN 2018) stands out. Among his participation, 3 are from the Spanish National Plan and, due to its international character, 4 COST actions, 1 Erasmus+ and 9 cooperation projects in PV engineering (Peru, Mexico, Sahara and Bolivia). He has also participated in 17 transfer contracts with companies in the sector (7 as PI).
He has also an extensive background in participation in plenary sessions in international congresses (21). The invitations to an international workshop on rural electrification (Bolivia) organized by CYTED and the European PV Solar Energy Congress stands out. It is also highlighted his intervention in the General Assembly of the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities.
He has also undertaken internships (16 months) in Bolivia, Peru, Germany (Fraunhofer Institute spin-off), Italy (EURAC Research Center) and in Spanish centres (CeDint-UPM)
He has co-supervised two thesis with great impact in the society, especially for small investors in Spain and also PV industry. He is also directing another thesis related to modelling the energy transition in Chile. He has been supervisor of 24 projects at the end of the Masters degree focused on developing PV designs.
He has more than 2100 hours of teaching experience, with external collaborations with the National University of Engineering in Lima, Peru. He has been rated as excellent by the evaluation system of the University of Jaén and in 2020 he obtained the Good Teaching Practice Award.
Regarding his management experience, he has participated in several project proposals. His participation in international consortiums promoters of 4 applications of H2020 stand out.
He belongs to the Scientific Committee of the Center for Advanced Studies in Energy and Environment, being responsible for the management of large financing projects (ERDF funds, 1.5M€). He is currently responsible of its Photovoltaic Laboratory, managing a team of 15 researchers.
He is also involved in the Management Committee of the Modular Energy Islands for
Sustainability and Resilience Cost Action (CA201009). He has experience as International Evaluator of projects (COST Actions, EUREKA projects) where his main contribution it’s the evaluation under the Innovation Fund call for Small Scale Projects of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency. He is also Senior Advisory Expert of the Solar Impulse Foundation World Alliance.
