Biography

Jenny Sousa holds a PhD in Cultural Studies from the Universidade de Aveiro, with a thesis on old age in contemporary culture. Master in Art and Education from the Universidade Aberta and graduated in Socio-educational Animation, with specialization in Local Development, by the Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra. She has written several articles and book chapters, especially on old age, leisure, culture, sociocultural and artistic animation, social education and accessibility. Founding member and vice-president of the current direction of the Ibero-American Network of Sociocultural Animation - Portugal. She is an integrated researcher at CICS.NOVA. IPLeiria - Interdisciplinary Center of Social Sciences. She is also a member of IRENNE - Association of Research, Prevention and Combat of Violence and Exclusion - and of NECO - Center of Studies in Culture and Leisure of the University of Aveiro. She also collaborates in several projects of social intervention and socio-cultural animation. Since 2007, she has been teaching at the Escola Superior de Educação e Ciências Sociais do Instituto Politécnico de Leiria, where she has taught in the courses of Cultural Animation, Social Education, Social Work, Intervention and Artistic Animation and Accessible Communication.
