Biography

I started working as a junior expert at the Central State Archives, Archives State Agency, Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2007 after defending my dissertation “Socio-economic development of the Vidin kaza in the 18th century (based on evidence from the Vidin Qadi books)” at the Sofia University, Bulgaria. Since then I have been working as an archivist. In the meantime I was appointed part-time lecturer at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), and in 2024 I was elected Associate Professor in Economic History at the UNWE, Sofia. In 2018 I started working as an expert in the Oriental Department of the National Library of Bulgaria, and in 2020 I was promoted to head of the department. In the course of my career I have always tried to combine archival practice with historical research, mainly with an emphasis on economics and financial history. I have published several books and monographs, including: In the Ottoman Periphery: Society and Economy in Vidin and its Region in the 18th Century. ISBN: 978-954-9983-76-0. Sofia, 2008, p. 360 (in Bulgarian); The Development of agricultural credit in the Danube Vilayet: The “public benefit funds” in the 1860s and 1870s (based on unpublished sources). ISBN 978-619-00-0560-5, Sofia, 2017, p. 252 (in Bulgarian); The Bulgarian 19th Century: New Sources and Reading. Editors: Orlin Sabev and Hristiyan Atanasov. ISBN 978-619-185-382-3, Sofia, 2019, p. 234 (in Bulgaria); Ottoman Documents from the Holdings of “Prof. Alexander Fol” Historical Museum, Malko Tarnovo Town. ISBN 978-619-185-332-8, Sofia, 2018, 100 p. (in English).
My research interests are focused on archiving, digitization, Ottoman diplomacy and palaeography, economic and monetary history.
I am a member of national and international organizations such as: “Centre for Economic and Historical Research”, “Centre for Monetary Research”, “Ottoman and Turkish Studies Association” and others.
