Biography
Dr. Paul Doyle is the Head of the School of Computer Science at Technological University Dublin and has over 30 years of experience as both an academic and professional senior manager and director for companies such as Sun Microsystems, CR2 and Critical Path. An academic since 2008, he completed his PhD in Computer Science in Astronomical Distributed Data Processing building a globally distributed data processing network Infrastructure. His research areas include Big Data processing, Distributed Systems, Systems Infrastructure, and international educational pedagogy. Focused on improving the quality of education in Computer Science, he has been PI (Principal Investigators) on several European and Asian funded projects in the areas of technology enhanced learning.
He is dedicated to ensuring inclusion, accessibility, and the provision of education for all as a core mission within his development of university education in Computer Science. With a record of accomplishment in internationalising education curriculum through the development of partnerships within both industry and academia, his vision for STEM education in Ireland is to drive best practice in teaching and research. As the head of the Applied Social Computing research group in TU (Technological University) Dublin, a human-centric technology and solutions research group, he believes in putting people at the heart of our research. His aim is to ensure there is a clear focus on the responsible use technology in our society, including incorporating an ethos of sustainability and digital ethics in both research and teaching.
In recognition of work done in China was recently awarded “top oversea professors 2020 for the Provence of HUNAN”. He is currently the Vice Chair of the Royal Irish Academy Engineering and Computer Sciences Committee.
